Originally trained as a research scientist using evidence found in lakes and peat bogs (such as fossil pollen) combined with radiocarbon dating to reconstruct past climates and environments and gain a better understanding of our planet’s history. Particular interests in monsoons, mountains, forests and lakes.
My research has taken me to remote locations all over the world including the foothills of the Himalayas, the Mars-like deserts of western Australia and the cathedral forests of British Columbia, Canada.
I have a published scientific papers in international journals including Quaternary Science Reviews, Paleoceanography and the Journal of Quaternary Science. I am an Associate Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy and an Ambassador for STEMNET; the UK Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Network, which aims to encourage and foster a lifelong interest in science amongst young people.
